The client, Natalie Allen, is a professional dressage rider and trainer with a yard of horses competing up to Grand Prix level.
Her problem was the relatively new (3 year old) waxed arena surface from one of the big names. It had compacted considerably, and the maintenance equipment originally provided with the surface by the supplier was, in our view, unsuitable. This resulted in an over-firm, inconsistent and uneven finish – the client feared for the soundness of her horses and didn’t want to even risk using the school.
On inspection we surmised that the surface was over-compact – with little energy return and uneven surface. In our opinion the leveller that had been supplied was unsuitable for the surface – resulting in the lifting and depositing of the surface around the arena, creating lumps and bumps.
We added 12 bales of Trojan PolyFibre, reworked the whole waxed arena surface for much more cushion and energy return and provided a new Rake&Roll harrow that gives a far more consistent and even finish to the surface.
Natalie has found that maintenance is drastically reduced and the horses are back working with zero injury now.
